The 2022 BioMelbourne Network Annual General Meeting and Networking Event was held on Thursday 17 November in person and online.
BioMelbourne Network bestows Honorary Life Membership awards to Members whose service has provided significant benefit to the Network.
At the 2022 AGM, we honoured two outstanding Members whose commitment over many years has supported the healthtech industry and progressed BioMelbourne Network’s strategic objectives.
Dr Amanda Caples is Victoria’s Lead Scientist. She has extensive experience in technology commercialisation, public policy development and governance of public and private entities.
Amanda is a Director of Breakthrough Victoria Pty Ltd; Chair of mRNA Victoria’s Scientific Advisory Group; Director of Agriculture Victoria Services Pty Ltd; a member of the Rail Industry Development Advisory Committee and Chair of the Victorian Quantum Technology Network, which advances teaching and research in quantum technologies.
She also plays a significant role in non-government Boards and advisory bodies, including: RMIT Space Industry Hub; Ivanhoe Grammar School (Deputy Chair); Swinburne Industry Research Advisory Committee; STEM Sisters and Springboard Enterprises Life Science Council.
Amanda has led the development of industry, science and innovation policy in Victoria since joining the Victorian Public Service in 2002 as the inaugural Director of Biotechnology. During this time, she has delivered major policy reforms, a range of programs, global partnerships and landmark initiatives, including the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
Lusia Guthrie was appointed to the BioMelbourne Network Board Member in 2017, becoming Deputy Chair from 2017 to 2018 and Chair from 2018 to 2021. She was also acting CEO from December 2016 to April 2017 and March to June 2020.
Lusia is a company director, entrepreneur, founder and CEO, with over 35 years’ experience in the healthtech and biotech sectors in clinical pathology, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and medtech product development and commercialisation.
Lusia has actively led and supported the growth of the healthtech sector in Victoria and Australia, and is influential nationally and globally. She brings academia, government, industry and not-for-profits together to drive growth, change and medical innovation.
Lusia is also a mentor to future leaders in industry and academia, extending her impact for years to come.
Amy Demediuk retired from her roles as Secretary and Public Officer of the BioMelbourne Network Board of Directors at the 2022 Annual General Meeting on 17 November.
At the AGM, BioMelbourne Network thanked Amy for her direct involvement, strong and effective leadership, and clear direction to the Board and CEO Jeff Malone.
As Chair of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee, Amy has taken the lead to ensure that BioMelbourne Network could seek her replacement.
