I would firstly like to say thank you to our members, stakeholders and secretariat for such a warm welcome. It is in an honour and a privilege to lead the Committee for Melbourne into a new era of change and I come into the role energised and eager to hit the ground running. Thank you to Matt Gaffney for holding the reins as interim CEO until my recent appointment.
We understand that the last few years have been challenging as we navigated our collective Road to Recovery. Now is the time to build momentum for real and measurable progress. The Committee’s recently released Benchmarking Melbourne report measures Melbourne’s performance across future economy, liveability and infrastructure & sustainability – to determine how Melbourne stacks up. The report shows that we must keep our eye on areas where we are performing well such as our great sporting and cultural assets, as much as we seek to improve in areas that need focus. There is much that the wonderful community of Melbourne can collaborate on such as attraction and retention of skills, commercialisation of research, whole of city connectivity and housing affordability.
We will achieve progress through collaboration and hard work. And that includes collaboration with the incoming Federal Albenese Government, who we warmly welcome and look forward to working with to help map a successful path forward for Melbourne.
I look forward to connecting with all our members over the coming months. If you would like to arrange a catch up to discuss our big agenda and how we can work together, please contact Chrissie Heyn who will arrange for me to meet with you.
