Shopfront Activation Program

Posted 14 October 2021
The City of Melbourne is leading a precinct revitalisation program designed to support businesses and reinvigorate the key areas of the city that need it most, and we feel that this may be of interest to BioMelbourne Network members.

The aim is to transform empty shopfronts into creative spaces, bespoke displays and pop-up shops under a new $2.6 million activation program from the City of Melbourne and Victorian Government.

The program will give low or no cost space to budding entrepreneurs to test their business ideas and help attract Melburnians back into the city.

Are you an individual or small business looking to expand?

Low or no cost tenancies will be available for at least 75 currently vacant premises across Lygon Street in Carlton, Docklands and the eastern end of the CBD. Appointed activation agencies are on the lookout for suitable tenants to activate and operate out of vacant premises on a short-term, flexible or longer term arrangement of up to 12 months.

Benefits

  • Low-cost, flexible and cost-effective solution to expand your physical presence.
  • Opportunity to prototype or test your business model in a real world environment.
  • Supportive agencies focused on activating the surrounding area to drive footfall and attract new and existing customers.
  • Tap into the collective marketing and communication efforts of City of Melbourne networks and stakeholders.
