The company

Our client is a Melbourne-based biotechnology company developing first-in-class therapies. An innovative start up, backed by international Venture Capital funding, and an experienced team, they have a huge potential to change the future of treatment of patient outcomes associated with fibrosis and related disorders.

The role

Working directly with the Principal Scientist, this newly created role will support their research activities contributing to key projects that have the potential to make a significant impact to the lives of patients. You will help plan, develop, and coordinate activities associated with the laboratory research and drug development program. Your remit includes:

  • Developing and optimizing in vitro assay protocols including biochemical, cellular, signalling, and functional assays to answer scientific questions.
  • Handling and maintaining primary cells and established cell lines for experimental work.
  • Establishing and troubleshooting protocols and assays to support preclinical drug development and other related projects.
  • Handling of experimental data using various software tools and statistical methods.
  • Maintaining and recording of experimental protocols, results, and observations in electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Support the team in interpreting results and preparing reports for internal review and external presentations.
  • Support in preparing documents for regulatory submissions and patent application.
  • Working with internal and external researchers to support and achieve research milestones and objectives.
  • Working closely with the Principal Scientist to establish the requirements and resources required for their new state-of-the-art new labs based in a Biomedical Precinct in Melbourne.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining risk assessments and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory activities and equipment operations.

The Expertise

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Tertiary-level post graduate qualification in cell or molecular biology, or related field
  • Ideally minimum 3 years industry experience or applied research in drug development.
  • Wide range of molecular and cell biology techniques.
  • Good documentation records management to assist in the regulatory and patenting process.
  • Flexibility in switching between projects and adapting to changing priorities.

In addition to gaining early start-up experience, this is a unique role in a close-knit team laying the foundation for the company’s future success. You will be at the forefront of R&D in bringing their lead candidate drugs to the clinic and developing a pipeline of novel drugs.
