MTPConnect – 2020 Sector Competitiveness Plan

14 May 2020

In November of 2015, MTPConnect was established as an independent, not-for-profit organisation to drive connectivity, innovation, productivity and competitiveness in Australia’s medical technology, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals sector.

In 2016, MTPConnect published a foundation plan for the sector and MTPConnect; their first Sector Competitiveness Plan (SCP), which was developed with input from hundreds of sector participants. A periodic review and update of the SCP is an important initiative to inform MTPConnect’s ongoing priorities and areas of focus.

In 2020 MTPConnect have refreshed their 2019, 2016 and 2018 plans, again with extensive input from key sector participants.

The 2020 plan captures the evolving nature of the sector up to 31 December 2019, exploring emerging megatrends which are driven by changing consumer demands and rapid technological advances. It also identifies key Knowledge Priorities; the areas where there is a high level of unmet need and where Australia can be a leading global contributor.

MTPConnect’s 2020 SCP captures the advances made by the sector both nationally and globally over the last year, prior to the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic. And while the sector had shown a strong upward trajectory at the time of writing, we acknowledge that it is now being tested like never before. Importantly, the sector is poised to play a key role in Australia’s COVID-19 response and recovery.

MTPConnect will be directly addressing COVID-19 impacts on the MTP sector and the path to recovery in a series of reports to be released during 2020.
