Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers recently delivered the 2022-2023 Budget. He announced new public health initiatives in Australia and increases in funding for foreign aid, regional and global health, climate change and the environment.
Australian Global Health Alliance have released a Budget report focusing on global health.
Here are their highlights:
- $3.4 million to establish a National Health and Sustainability Climate Unit
- $3.2 million over 1 year for planning to set up an Australian Centre for Disease Control
- $73.69 million over 1 year for stockpiles of third-generation monkey pox vaccines
- $102 million increase in international funding over 4 years
- $1.4 billion for development projects in the Pacific, Timor-Leste and South East Asia, and Australian NGO partnerships over 4 years
- $419.7 million increase in regional and global health funding
- $216 million for regional health security and $217. 2 million for global health programs
- $200 million for climate and infrastructure partnerships in Indonesia, part of an additional $470 million package for South East Asia over 4 years.
