First 3D map of cell-building protein linked to cancer

Walter and Eliza Hall Institute researchers have revealed for the first time the three-dimensional molecular ‘map’ of a protein that has been pinpointed as a driver of many types of cancers.

More than one in 10 stomach cancers have defective forms of the protein DCLK1, which have also been found in kidney, rectal and pancreatic cancers. The new unprecedented view of DCLK1 could provide clues to how it contributes to cancer formation and progression.

The media release is below. The Structure journal research paper, Biochemical and Structural Insights into Doublecortin-like Kinase Domain 1, can be accessed at http://www.cell.com/structure/fulltext/S0969-2126(16)30194-0
