BioBusiness Insights: Building a Competent Board

John Harte, Managing Partner, Integrity Governance

John is the Managing Partner of Integrity Governance. He specialises in working with businesses at a point of inflection, and boards and businesses under pressure due to change.
Prior to establishing Integrity Governance over 16 years ago, John worked across a range of industries and held chief executive, chairman and director roles in a number of companies around the world. John’s extensive experience means he’s equipped to help you navigate growth, new markets, mergers, acquisitions and crises; and the pressures of new ownership, generational, economic or legislative forces.
John is a core international facilitator for the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and is an in-demand speaker and thought leader on board effectiveness, practical governance and business disruption. He’s a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Institute of Directors (UK), a Board Leadership Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors (USA) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. Originally trained as a veterinarian, John works with emerging and mature biotech businesses around the world combining knowledge of science, regulation and governance in a practical way.

Mathew Ronald, Director, People Advisory Services, EY

Mathew is a Director in EY’s People Advisory Services practice who works with companies to develop effective and compliant remuneration and governance arrangements.
He is known for his ability to work at the intersection between performance, regulation, and complex operating environments.
His areas of expertise include board effectiveness, people governance, executive remuneration, and remuneration law.
Mathew works with Boards, governance, HR, and risk teams of ASX 100 companies, predominately in the financial services sector.
Mathew holds a Bachelor of Communication, Bachelor of Laws (Hons), and a Master of Business Administration. He is a member of the Law Society of NSW and is a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia.

Jo Avasti, Partner, People Advisory Services, EY

Joanne is a Partner in EY’s People Advisory Services practice in Australia and leads our Executive Remuneration practice in Oceania.
Her areas of expertise include developing remuneration strategy aligned to corporate performance, effective stakeholder engagement and governance.
Joanne works with Board Remuneration Committees and executive teams of large national and international organisations, predominantly ASX 100. Prior to moving to Australia in 2004, Joanne worked in the UK, advising FTSE100 companies.
Joanne holds both a Bachelor of Science majoring in business and law, as well as a Master of Science (Research) in law from Aston University (UK). She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (UK).

Marilyn Jones, Director, mexec careers

Marilyn Jones is an Executive Recruiter and Scientist with over 22 years’ experience in resourcing staff for companies and assisting individuals with their career aspirations.
Marilyn undertook research in cancer and immunology, leading to managing an R&D project for the commercialisation of the purified components of snake venom for human therapeutic purposes. Combined with additional commercialisation projects in wheat identification and infectious diseases, she gained a comprehensive understanding of the diagnostics and drug development sectors.
After a period of selling complex scientific instrumentation systems into the Pharmaceutical, Research, Pathology, Analytical and Manufacturing sectors, she made the fortuitous move into Recruitment. Working for both boutique and multinational recruitment organisations, Marilyn has worked across many industry and business sectors. She particularly enjoys the challenge of ‘The Search’ for hard-to-fill senior roles.
Marilyn’s focus in starting her company in 2011 was to look after the individual. This has developed into an extensive program –mexec jobstrategy™ - working with candidates in many industries to assist them on one on one in their career aspirations and job search strategy.
mexec careers Executive Search Recruitment division assists start-ups to multinational companies with their HR and recruitment requirements from graduate to Board level.
