Continuing our facility tour series for 2015, the BioMelbourne Network is pleased to bring you to the Australian Red Cross Blood Service Melbourne Processing Centre. Having won the 2012 Master Builders and Environmental Design Awards, the facility tour will showcase the state-of-the-art processing facility in West Melbourne that is responsible for processing 40% of Australia’s blood supply. The event will provide an understanding of the manufacturing processes and “Lean” journey the Blood Service has embarked on.

More than 500,000 generous Australians give their time and blood through around 1.3 million donations each year, creating over 2 million life-saving products.

The Blood Service employs more than 3,800 people and is supported by about 2,000 volunteers. Over 100 blood collection facilities are in operation as well as four major processing centres and two major blood inventory and distribution hubs.
