Australian skincare manufacturer Ego Pharmaceuticals has unveiled a decade-long $156 million investment to expand its domestic production capabilities, opening the advanced Zorzi Innovation Centre (ZInC) alongside new sustainability and manufacturing upgrades.
The announcement was marked by an official event at Ego’s Braeside site, attended by the Hon. Danny Pearson, Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs, where the investment was recognised as a significant boost to Victoria’s thriving health technology sector. BioMelbourne Network CEO Karen Parr was also present at the event. The developments included The Green Core sustainability project, an expanded warehouse, and a new cream filling line to meet increasing demand.
In 2024, Ego’s flagship QV brand had achieved the top position as Australia’s leading skincare brand across pharmacy and grocery channels, recording sales exceeding $133 million. The company’s new facilities would enable production capacity to double beyond the 33 million units manufactured in 2024 while continuing progress towards environmental targets, including a 32% reduction in carbon emissions since 2019*.
“This milestone represented a major step forward not only for Ego Pharmaceuticals but also for Australian manufacturing as a whole,” Managing Director Alan Oppenheim AM had stated. “While many global skincare companies produced offshore, Ego had chosen to support Australian expertise and jobs. This investment was a long-term vote of confidence in what local science and innovation could achieve.”
Premier Jacinta Allan had emphasised that such investments strengthened the economy and created employment. Tim Piper AM, Head Victoria at Australian Industry Group, noted that the commitment by Ego ensured greater manufacturing self-reliance and access to trusted Australian-made products.
Established in 1953, Ego Pharmaceuticals is family-owned, producing QV Skincare, Aqium Hand Sanitiser, Azclear Action, Moov Head Lice, and DermAid creams.
