Fourteen researchers at the Doherty Institute have secured over $30.5 million from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigator Grant Scheme to tackle major health challenges with projects addressing antimicrobial resistance, influenza, malaria, tuberculosis, cancer and neglected tropical diseases such as Buruli ulcer.
The NHMRC Investigator Grants program support researchers at all career stages to drive innovation, explore new frontiers in medical science and foster global collaborations. Running over five years, they provide the long-term support and security to explore bold ideas.
The University of Melbourne’s Professor Sharon Lewin, Director of the Doherty Institute, commended the researchers on their success, highlighting the significance of sustained investment in medical science.
“Financing scientific research is advancing the future of healthcare, innovation and global health,” said Professor Lewin.
“Receiving such a prestigious grant is a testament to one’s dedication, passion and contribution to their field. I am incredibly proud of our researchers and extend my sincere congratulations on their achievements. I look forward to seeing the impact of their outstanding research, both in Australia and globally.”
