Ian is currently a Vice Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow at Monash University and a Non-Executive Director on boards of Australian and US medtech companies.
Previously, the Executive Vice President and Global Chief Medical Officer at Boston Scientific Corporation, in the US, Ian led clinical innovation, pre-clinical science and medical affairs across the global organisation and provided executive leadership of the company’s clinical strategy. He has also served as the Professor and Director of MonashHeart, at Monash Health. During his career spanning more than 30 years as an Australian practising clinician, interventional cardiologist, clinical trialist and global key opinion leader, Ian has mentored emerging leaders and performed more than 20,000 invasive cardiac and coronary procedures.
Ian has significant board experience as a Member and Medical Vice-President on the Heart Foundation of Australia’s National and Victorian Boards and National Member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Board. He has served the Australian Government on the Department of Human Services Cardiac Services Review and Department of Health and Ageing Cardiac Prostheses Advisory Group; the Victorian Government as their North American Medtech Business Ambassador and, more recently, as Executive Advisor to the Australian Medtech Manufacturing Centre.
In 2012, Ian received an Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division for outstanding service to medicine in the field of cardiology as a clinician and researcher, and for advisory roles with a range of public health organisations. He also received a Doctor of Laws honoris causa for outstanding service to Monash University.
