BioMedTech Horizons Program

Delivered by MTPConnect, the Australian Government’s $45 million BioMedTech Horizons program (BMTH), is a Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) initiative to support innovative collaborative health technologies, drive discoveries towards proof-of-concept and commercialisation that address key health challenges as well as maximise entrepreneurship and idea potential.  

Across four funding rounds, the BMTH program has funded 49 projects and investments from the program have focused on supporting proof-of-concept to commercial development of biomedical and medical technologies.

New Report Reveals Investors Back Homegrown Future Medical Devices After MRFF Funding

As the second phase of the BioMedTech Horizons (BMTH) program moves to completion, a new report has captured the outcomes of 38 innovations supported through the program.

Launched in May 2017, the BMTH program is an initiative of the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) designed and delivered by MTPConnect to support early-stage medical device developments to move towards commercialisation.

The impact report covers the second, third and fourth rounds of BMTH which saw $30.3 million in funding awarded, leveraging an additional $36 million in contributions from industry.

This Australian government investment has supported 306 jobs, 87 medical technologies have been progressed toward commercialisation, 27 human clinical studies and trials have been initiated or completed, and eight technologies have received marketing approval and are commercialised.
