The Company

Our client is an early-stage, VC-backed biotechnology company working on a novel approach to improving autologous cell therapy. Specifically, they are developing a proprietary technology which aims to increase the clinical efficacy of CAR-T cell therapies used to treat solid tumours by enhancing their ability to detect and kill cancerous cells.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in flow cytometry and mammalian tissue culture to play a crucial role in generating and testing CAR-T cells for testing and analysis. Working alongside seasoned researchers in this maturing field, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing, optimising, executing and troubleshooting experiments to characterise and isolate cell populations from human blood samples using multiparametric FACS assays.
  • Isolating and maintaining primary cell lines, ensuring optimal growth conditions for human and murine cells.
  • Design and execute experiments to generate and characterise CAR-T cells using different molecular biology techniques and cell-based assays, including Western blot, ELISA, viability assays, qPCR and others.
  • Working with animal models of solid tumours to assess the effectiveness of generated CAR-T cells, including treatment of mice, harvest and processing of tissue samples and tumour measurement.
  • Collaboration with other members of the research team and broader laboratory, to develop the company’s intellectual property, enable progression towards preclinical studies, and attract further investment and grants.
  • Analysis and presentation of data collected in experiments to senior leadership team and collaborators.

The Requirements

  • PhD or other postgraduate qualification in immunology or related discipline
  • Exceptional experience optimising and performing protocols for cell analysis using flow cytometry, including gating, compensation processes, and subsequent data analysis
  • High-level skills in mammalian cell culture that include establishing and maintaining primary cell lines from human and murine tissue sources
  • Animal handling experience is highly desirable, particularly mouse tumour injection and measurement
  • Experience with CAR-T cell technologies is also very desirable and previous experience generating and/or characterising CAR T-cells will be highly regarded
  • Very high level of attention to detail and proven ability to precisely follow protocols and generate reproducible, high -quality data as a member of a multidisciplinary research team

The Offer

The successful candidate will join a team that’s dedicated to the successful translation of their technology. Total salary package and position title are flexible and will reflect the experience and capabilities of the successful applicant. This is a full-time position employed on a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension. Candidates at the level of Research Assistant through to Senior Scientist or equivalents are encouraged to apply.
