Strategic Lead – Australian Medtech Manufacturing Alliance

Posted: 2 December 2024

ABOUT AMMA

The Australian Medtech Manufacturing Alliance (AMMA) has been established in Victoria; led by BioMelbourne Network in unity with other peak industry bodies, and supported with seed funding from the Victorian Government.

The Alliance seeks to create a collective medtech manufacturer industry voice, and during its first two years, will advocate for Victorian SME medtech manufacturers to grow their share of local health procurement. The Alliance will connect the voices of manufacturing leaders in devices, diagnostics, and fixed and mobile medical equipment and consumables, many of whom have been operating for decades and many who are fast-growing exporters, but all who have encountered challenges selling in the Australian market or advocating on capabilities. The Alliance is a partnership of joined up peak bodies, uniting to address the gaps with joined up solutions, to unlock demand-side opportunities.

The Alliance will promote the 100 known manufacturer capabilities and speak with a cohesive medtech manufacturer voice to resolve issues and help SMEs overcome challenges being faced. By addressing these barriers the Alliance will drive more local content purchasing, where it is competitive and makes sense, by Victorian and Australian hospitals and health services.
Taking a supply and demand side view requires strategic co-leadership to drive systems-level change, to build stronger alignment, and to enable industry access to more local customers and more contracts, not just grants. A new competitive future exists manufacturing in Victoria: home to many successful medtech exporters, it makes sense to support our homegrown companies in the local market, as well as the global.

As many peak bodies attest: supporting stronger take-up of health and medical technologies in our health system means better outcomes for Australia and Australians.
Victoria will be the pilot to demonstrate the potential of this ambitious and important solutions-focused Alliance, working as a stepping stone to empower the national agenda.
Leading the Alliance is BioMelbourne Network, Victoria’s for-purpose membership organisation that seeks to foster and grow an innovative, globally-competitive healthtech industry. We have been committed to our members and our industry by creating an environment for greater collaboration and prosperity for over 20 years.

BioMelbourne will drive this initiative as part of an Alliance of peak bodies who are contributing to the shared goals to grow the sector and champion SME manufacturer success locally and globally.
