Expression of interest – Clinical trial specialist member of Ethics Committee

Posted: 12 November 2024

Closes: 21 December 2024

Swinburne University is currently seeking to appoint a volunteer clinical trials specialist as a member of the Swinburne University Human Research Ethics Committee (SUHREC).  The appointee will ideally have clinical trial experience, preferably a clinician who is familiar with the ethics requirements of clinical trials and has experience working within the Australian clinical trials governance framework.  While expressions of interest can be submitted from any research discipline, applications from the following areas are particularly encouraged to balance out the research expertise on the committee: substance abuse disorders; neurocognitive research; mental health research; psychotherapies and psychedelic substance treatments.

SUHREC conducts ethical review of Swinburne human research activity in line with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2023). In particular, a member of an ethical review body has the obligation to ensure that all human research proposals reviewed meet the requirements of the National Statement. Appointees will therefore have an interest in and commitment to ethically sound research involving humans, particularly with respect to the actual and possible impact on participants in various contexts, paying due regard to their rights and interests.

SUHREC meetings are scheduled monthly on a Friday morning and are held via MS Teams.  Members are expected to attend the meetings and also participate in regular research ethics training sessions.

Confidential expressions of interest should be submitted using the attached application form and include a short CV and explanation relevant to the criteria stated above and as contained in the attached Terms of Reference and duty statement.

Further information is available in the SUHREC membership Information Sheet or at https://www.swinburne.edu.au/research/ethics-integrity/human-research.

Applications should be sent to the Senior Research Ethics Coordinator, Swinburne Research via email anordmann@swin.edu.au by Friday 21st December 2024.
