The Board of BioMelbourne Network has accepted Jeff Malone’s resignation as CEO. Jeff will leave the Network on 1 March 2024.
Jeff’s passion for the sector and his enthusiasm and positive can-do attitude have been infectious, creating energy and magnetism. He has consistently set a challenging agenda for his team, moving at pace. Jeff has been instrumental in developing and executing an impactful and effective five-point business strategy for the Network over the past 3 years. It has led to increased membership and partners, enabling us to remain economically viable throughout the pandemic period.
A key focus for Jeff and his team has been to unlock the intrinsic value of having a broad, collaborative and supportive network, linking stakeholders from all corners of the healthtech sector, including industry, academia and government. He has demonstrated that BioMelbourne Network is not just a staff of seven people, but a strong and effective Network of hundreds of companies and thousands of individuals who make up the Victorian healthtech industry.
Jeff leaves two key advances as a legacy for the Network to build upon: ‘WILAM’ – the Life Sciences Industry Community Platform – and the BioResource Hub platform for disseminating education and insights. Both will continue to grow in influence across the Victorian and greater Australian ecosystems, driving engagement and increasing accessibility with others anywhere on the planet. In addition, Jeff and his team have continued to deliver extremely successful and high-quality training and upskilling programs such as the mRNA Lecture Series, produced on behalf of mRNA Victoria, and the Medtech Manufacturing Series, produced on behalf of AMMC. The increasing global reach of the Network was highlighted by the symposium we held on global healthtech advances for COVID-19, where we had representation from global experts including WHO and CEPI.
David Herd, Chair of BioMelbourne Network said: “Jeff has been instrumental in achieving organisational change for success, and as such we are no longer just Australia’s first state-based healthtech industry-led membership body, playing an important role in confirming Victoria’s leadership position, as Australia’s biotechnology capital, but we also have successfully taken our brand and impact to international communities. Jeff will be missed by the Network family and membership and many across the sector. We wish him well and thank him for his personal investment in our Network and more broadly the healthtech sector.”
The BioMelbourne Network Board has commenced a process to identify the next CEO to lead the Network to the next era of its strategy.
