The Federal Government has today announced $7.5 million in funding for three National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Centres of Research Excellence led by Monash Medicine Nursing and Allied Health researchers.
The Centres of Research Excellence (CRE) scheme provides support for teams of researchers to pursue collaborative research and develop capacity in basic science research, clinical research, health services research and public health research, with the objective to improve health outcomes and promote or improve translation of research outcomes into policy and practice.
The CREs announced for funding today were the highest ranking from a competitive field of applications as assessed by panels of expert peers.
One of the new funding allocations will enable the continuation of SPHERE CRE, a centre with an established history of driving better sexual and reproductive health outcomes for women through primary care, led by Professor Danielle Mazza AM from the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Two new centres will investigate a hidden and neglected cause of hypertension and optimise immunoglobulin management, led by Professor Peter Fuller from the Hudson Institute of Medical Research and Professor Erica Wood AO from the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine respectively.
