The use of design has played a key role in the success of these companies internationally. It has provided them the people, tools, knowledge and confidence to tackle complex design programs.
Tricycle Developments is a specialised industrial design and product engineering group. Driving innovation by combining design thinking and industrial design with strong technical and engineering competence. Founded 15 years ago, they have grown to a team of 16 full time dedicated development staff, working across a range of industries from Healthcare / Medical, Consumer, Industrial and Mining, with expertise in designing technically challenging products from project conception to production.
Through the restrictions placed on society due to COVID, Tricycle has noticed significant growth and opportunities for many of its clients. Some of these companies are investing in new product programs and others are looking over the horizon at what their future roadmap and product offering needs to be.
Local and federal funding has played an important role in supporting many local companies as they strive to bring new solutions to the market.
The BioMedical Horizons program, delivered by MTPConnect, supports the translation of Australian Medical Technology Innovation. Round 3 funding saw Seer Medical secure a grant, which will contribute to Seer Medical’s work on personalised epilepsy treatment via mobile and wearable monitoring.
The state-based Boost Your Business program in advanced manufacturing has contributed funding to SME’s who are looking at bringing leading solutions to the market, which encourages local employment and growth.
Local companies such as Joolca have been able to access the grant to commercialise new technology solutions, allowing them to compete internationally. The grant provides up to 50K as a voucher, providing companies support when bringing world class solutions to the market.
Companies such as Movi moved quickly to address the need to work from home by creating a cost down model of its adjustable standing desk.
Broadly we are hearing people want to innovate right now, but at the same time they wish to manage their overheads and external spend. The design knowledge, people and tools Tricycle offers allows companies to investigate opportunities and materialise potential solutions quickly.
This new breed of Victoria companies have accessed local design for new product development, and many of them have access to state and federal funding to support them on their journey.
