New BioMelbourne Network Board Appointment – Dr Elane Zelcer

The BioMelbourne Network Board was delighted to welcome Dr Elane Zelcer as new Board Director at the most recent Annual General Meeting. 

Dr Elane Zelcer, Director, BioConsult Pty Ltd.

Dr Elane Zelcer has extensive experience in Australian life sciences. Her deep understanding of the sector spans its strengths, potential and needs in developing novel products, processes and services. She has a strong leadership, strategy and risk management record at Board and CEO levels.

Among Elane’s many strengths are advocating within government and forming effective relationships with diverse stakeholders to align the interests of investors, entrepreneurs and stakeholders in high risk commercial and non-profit enterprises.

Her career includes academia, executive management, directorships and management consulting, with a focus on life sciences and medical technologies. This includes private sector SME and multinational companies, universities, CRCs and federal and state government committees.

From her first start-up in 1997, to today, Elane has advised and assisted companies and research teams with strategic decision-making and risk management, governance, and strategic guidance for capital raising and commercialisation. Much of this has involved the intersection between the research sector and business.

She is contracted by the Australian Government as a Commercialisation Adviser for Accelerating Commercialisation. In this role she has assisted more than 120 start-up and early stage companies, university spinouts and research teams to develop and refine their growth paths. Many have received grants leading to their ongoing growth and participation in the Australian economy.

Elane obtained her BSc (Hons), PhD and Graduate Diploma in Marketing at Monash University, before completing post-doctoral studies at McMaster University in Canada and the University of Virginia.

She is on BioMelbourne Network Advisory Committee’s, AUSiMED Limited’s Scientific Advisory Committee, the Victorian Medical Device Partnering Program’s Independent Advisory Committee and Mentone Girls’ Grammar’s Enterprise Academy. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a member of the Australia Israel Chamber of Commerce and BioMelbourne Network. In 2017 she was awarded Monash University’s Distinguished Alumni Award for the Faculty of Science.
