About the role

We are looking for a scientist to join our growing team. We expect the scientist in this position to be proficient in a range of cell-based methods which should include:

  • isolation of PBMC from whole blood (preferably some experience with human blood);
  • cryopreservation and thawing of cells;
  • in vitro cell culture with primary cells; and
  • multi-parameter flow cytometry.

The ideal candidate will be able to contribute valuable skills to a wide range of contract research projects for a range of clinical and pre-clinical clients. The scientist position also involves experiment planning and administration, data analysis, reporting, and potentially some customer facing duties. It is expected that you would spend 70% of your time working on clients’ contract research projects, 20% in business activities and 10% on Quality-related documentation.

Crux Biolabs is a specialist immunology contract research service that contributes to clinical and pre-clinical studies. Our team of scientists are experts at customizing biomarker detection and cell assays for a range of vaccine and pharma clients, mainly focused on infectious disease and oncology. Our laboratory in Bayswater, in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, is accredited by NATA to ISO/IEC 17025.

In your cover letter, you must address how your previous experience relates to the requested skills, below.

Essential:

  • At least 6 months’ experience performing PBMC processing, cryopreservation and thawing.
    • You must provide details of:
      • Which isolation techniques you’ve used on human blood;
      • How many months’ or years’ experience and when the experience was; and
      • The maximum number of blood samples manually processed within one week.
  • In vitro (and/or ex vivo) cell culture methods.
  • Multi-parameter flow cytometry.
  • Ability to work in Australia, commencing in the next 3 months. We are keen for the preferred candidate to start promptly.

Preferred:

  • At least 5 years bench experience.
  • Methodological with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.

Nice to have:, but not essential:

  • ELISA and/or multiplex immunoassay, or ELISpot experience.
  • Experience working in a quality-controlled environment, preferably an accredited facility following ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 15289, GLP or similar.
