Our Client
Our client a precision oncology company developing targeted small molecule therapies for cancer patient populations with no currently effective treatments. They have one clinical-stage program that is out-licensed and four early drug discovery programs that are all potential first in class opportunities.The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a new leader to join their management team.  Working closely with the CEO & Board, you will assist to develop and implement the Company’s research and development strategy. Ideally you have established and advanced small molecule drug discovery campaigns from hit identification through to pre-clinical candidate selection in the pharma/biotechnology sectors.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Work closely with the Company’s research partners integrating target discovery, functional validation and protein engineering/structural biology within a distributed medicinal chemistry environment.
  • Assess hit/lead compounds (e.g., analysis of structure-activity relationship and druglike properties) and coordinate medicinal chemistry and biological activities to support compound progression through the drug development pipeline.
  • Provide strategic and scientific leadership for the Company’s research and development program.
  • Significant prior experience working in a virtual distributed model of drug discovery and development utilising a network of CROs and consultants as needed.

Position Requirements

  • PhD in Organic Chemistry or equivalent, with 5+ years of industry experience, specialising in the discovery and development of novel small-molecule drugs.
  • Experience in devising hit discovery campaigns, lead identification and optimisation development plans and target candidate profiles.
  • Solid understanding and application of pharmacology (PK/PD, ADME) and toxicology activities to support lead optimisation and exploratory preclinical development.
  • Preferred experience in an industry – academic collaborations, working in industry and/or participating in industry sponsored clinical trials an advantage.
  • Oncology experience an advantage.
