Postdoctoral position available – Research Scientist – Extracellular Vesicle Product Manufacture

The Company
VivaZome Therapeutics Pty Ltd, a biotechnology company, based in Melbourne, is developing next generation extracellular vesicle (EV)-based therapeutics and treatments addressing diseases and indications in areas of high-unmet medical need.
The Position
This is a broad-based operational role working with a small team and requires a PhD-level scientist who has experience in extracellular vesicle biology, an enthusiastic self-starter, goal driven and has a strong interest in the cell and gene therapy sector and product manufacture.
This is a full-time position, subject to flexible working arrangements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Optimise processes for clinical-scale production of extracellular vesicles from cells.
Assist with the implementation of a quality management system for EV product manufacture.
Implement methods for the purification and concentration of high-quality EVs for in vitro and in vivo analysis.
Produce batches of EVs for preclinical studies.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings, and implement these improvements in a timely and effective manner.
Oversee qualification, sourcing and supply of media, materials and consumables for EV product manufacture.
Assist with studies that assess EV function and properties by various analytical techniques.
Liaise with collaborators and arrange for testing of EV product samples in model systems.
Develop and contribute to appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and methods for operation of the VivaZome EV manufacturing facility.
Work closely with other members of the team to ensure smooth and efficient operations throughout the company.
Execute tasks in accordance with planning schedules.
Reporting and documentation requirements:
Accurately record experimental procedures and protocols.
Prepare detailed characterisation reports.
Prepare data presentations as required.
Contribute to laboratory meeting discussions and other scientific forums.
Other duties as directed.
Skills And Experience
A postgraduate qualification or PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. biochemistry, chemistry, biophysics) is essential.
Demonstrated knowledge of quality systems (QMS), GMP and good documentation practices.
Proven ability and strong experience in cell culture and aseptic technique.
Good understanding of protein chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry.
Knowledge of process scaling from lab-scale to GMP production, using bioreactor technology.
Working knowledge and practical experience with chromatography systems and related instruments.
General knowledge of biologics formulation would be looked upon favourably.
Good knowledge of pharmaceutical industry quality standards, regulations and guidelines.
Experience in development and application of protein purification strategies for the isolation of functional EVs would be very highly regarded.
Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise from multiple activities and fulfil defined milestones and deadlines.
Ability to maintain excellent records including using full electronic record technology e.g., LabArchives and databases.
An ethos of working collaboratively with a research team and proactive problem solving.
