Asset tracking in Manufacturing

Posted: 7 March 2023

Event: 23 March 2023

Manufacturing operations involve many moving parts, literally and figuratively. They can be complex and managing them efficiently can be challenging. This is where real time location systems (RTLS) can help. RTLS technology provides a way to track and monitor high value assets, equipment, tools, products, inventory, and personnel in real time, which can lead to operational efficiencies, increased safety, and improved productivity.

So, what is RTLS? RTLS is a system that uses wireless communication technologies to determine the real time location of assets or people. It enables continuous and fine-grained monitoring of objects, particularly in indoor environments where global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are known to be inaccurate. There are several wireless communication technologies that are commonly used in RTLS, including Bluetooth, Ultra-wideband (UWB), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and Global Positioning System (GPS).

Presented by Factory of the Future at Swinburne University in collaboration with iottag, this webinar we will provide an introduction to RTLS technologies, discuss the operational benefits of RTLS in manufacturing operations, and present some use cases of RTLS applications.
