NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2017 WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP AWARDS ARE NOW CLOSED

Purpose of the Awards:

To celebrate women who exhibit leadership in their fields of expertise and have made outstanding contributions to advancing the industry.

To honour women who serve as role models and mentors to others and have made outstanding contributions to supporting the industry.

To profile the women who take strategic risks, tenaciously pursue goals and have made outstanding contributions to innovation in the industry.

Eligibility:

Women must work in or support “the industry” – including biotechnology, medical technology, pharmaceuticals and innovative health technology industries. This includes executives, management, R&D practitioners, suppliers, service providers and other roles engaged with the sector.

Award categories:

The BioMelbourne Network Women in Leadership Awards recognise that leadership occurs at all levels within an organisation and throughout the wider sector. The three categories of the awards are designed to celebrate women at different stages of their careers and in different types of leadership roles:

Women in Leadership Award - recognising senior corporate leadership and directorship.

Most Valuable Women in Leadership Award - recognising leadership of teams, projects and initiatives.

Emerging Women in Leadership Award - recognising rising stars with high potential for future success.


Nomination process:

Nominations are accepted using the online forms below and via email from members of BioMelbourne Network.

Each nominator may submit a maximum of two nominations per category per year and must be submitted in separate applications.

Applications must include a 2-page CV of the nominee and a statement from the nominator/nominee addressing the selection criteria (max 250 words per criteria).

The closing date is Friday 14th April 2017

Winners will be selected by the Women in Leadership Awards judging panel, appointed by BioMelbourne Network.

The winners will be announced at the Connecting Women Lunch on Friday 2nd June 2017.

Who is eligible?

This award recognises an experienced and inspirational leader, a woman who has advanced to a senior leadership position within their organisation, who would typically have more than 15 years’ experience in the industry.

The ideal candidate:

An inspiring woman who has achieved professional success in her personal career, through strong leadership, strategic risk taking, decision making and willingness to innovate. This award would typically recognise a woman at a very senior leadership level of her organisation (C -suite / GM/ Director / Founder).

Selection criteria:

〉 A woman who exhibits leadership and excellence in her field of expertise and has made outstanding contributions to advancing the industry

〉 A woman who is a positive role model and mentor who has made outstanding contributions to supporting the industry and the people who work in it

〉 A woman who has taken strategic risks, tenaciously pursues goals and has made outstanding contributions to innovation in the industry.


Who is eligible?

To honour women whose high level of performance and success has lead change and innovation, who would typically be responsible for leading teams, projects or initiatives, and have more than 15 years’ experience in the industry.

The ideal candidate:

An inspiring woman who has set herself aside from her peers in her pursuit of professional success in her personal career, who made outstanding contributions to leading change and supporting the wider industry. This award recognises women at any level of leadership within an organisation in recognition of leading teams, projects and initiatives.

Selection criteria:

〉 A woman who exhibits leadership and excellence throughout her career, and has made outstanding contributions through leading teams, projects or initiatives that advance the industry

〉 A woman who is a positive role model and contributor who has made outstanding contributions to supporting the industry and the people who work in it

〉 A woman who has played a pivotal role in leading change, who tenaciously pursues goals and has had a positive impact on innovation in the industry.


Who is eligible?

This award recognises an emerging leader, a woman who has 10 years or less of industry experience who is a rising star with high potential for future success.

The ideal candidate:

An inspiring woman who has set herself aside from her peers in her pursuit of professional success in her personal career and has shown leadership skills and traits at a very early point in their career.

Selection criteria:

〉 A woman who has shown leadership skills and traits, determination, drive and enthusiasm toward advancing the industry

〉 A woman who is a positive role model and who has sought out opportunities to make a contribution to supporting the industry

〉 A woman who has a willingness to take strategic risks, pursue goals and shows commitment to innovation in the industry.


FAQs

Do nominees have to be Melbourne based?

Nominees must be a current employee of an organisation that is a current financial member of BioMelbourne Network, which includes interstate and international members.

Can I complete the application form myself?

Yes, you can complete the application form yourself, but please make sure that your application is endorsed by a nominator from a BioMelbourne Network member organisation.

Does the nominator have to be from the same organisation as the nominee?

No, in fact cross-organisational nominations are encouraged. Be aware that both the nominee and the nominator must both be from an organisation that is a current financial member of BioMelbourne Network.

Is there an entry fee?

No.

Can I enter more than one category?

No. The awards as designed to recognise women at different stages of their careers in different types of leadership roles. If you are not sure which category to apply for, please ask us at info@biomelbourne.org

How do I write a winning application?

Tell an engaging story, clearly illustrated with compelling examples of how the nominee is an outstanding leader worthy of celebration and recognition. Be bold and keep your writing non-technical so the impact of the nominee’s leadership achievements can be easily understood.

Will I, or the nominee, have to attend an interview?

No. All judging is done by the panel reviewing the written application.

Who is on the judging panel?

The judging panel consists of members of the BioMelbourne Network Board and previous BioMelbourne Network Women in Leadership Awardees, and will be made public after the announcement of the awards.

How will I, or my nominee, know if I/they have won an award?

All nominations will be acknowledged via email. Winners will be notified two weeks prior and embargoed until announcement of the awards at the BioMelbourne Network Connecting Women Lunch on Friday 2nd June 2017.

What do I, or my nominee, get if I/they win?

All winners will be acknowledged at the BioMelbourne Network Connecting Women Lunch on Friday 2nd June 2017, with the presentation of an elegant trophy. All awardees will be profiled though media and promotional activities associated with the award. To boost the profile of women in leadership roles in our sector winners will also be offered speaking opportunities at BioMelbourne Network events.

What do I, or my nominee, have to do if I/they win?

The awards will be presented at the BioMelbourne Network Connecting Women Lunch on Friday 2nd June and all awardees will be invited to make a very brief statement when accepting the award. All winners will be asked to provide media information and be available for media interviews in conjunction with the awards. Winners are encouraged to describe themselves as the winner of the “2017 BioMelbourne Network Women in Leadership Award” in their selected category in print and electronic publications.
