The Company

A first for Australia, and one of a small number of similar initiatives globally, BioCurate’s venture catalyst model provides the commercial focus, industry expertise, and funding critical to boost the successful development of new medicines. The company is independently governed and operated.

BioCurate is a joint venture between the University of Melbourne and Monash University, established in Melbourne with the support of the Victorian State Government.

The Opportunity
BioCurate is seeking a Senior Development Manager to join this exciting initiative and be part of transforming the way medical research is commercialised in Australia. This position will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Scientific Advisory Committee to lead the development of the BioCurate portfolio from initial academic interaction through achievement of specific project milestones. Success as BioCurate’s Senior Development Manager will be driven through personal drive and initiative, drug development expertise, and excellent academic, CRO and other stakeholder interactions leading to the development and management of a drug development project plan.

The Role
The Senior Development Manager is responsible for the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closure of projects at the project level. Specifically, to:

  • Establish operational and project management procedures to ensure effective diligence, risk management and assessment for investment into prospective assets.
  • Collaborate with project sponsors and stakeholders to ensure that project requirements and constraints are fully developed and documented.
  • Secure and manage appropriate cross functional resources to proceed to planning phase.
  • Prepare and manage annual project budgets, long range financial projections, project timelines, project scope documents and all other project documentation.
  • Develop corrective action plans and/or lead replanning efforts to minimize/eliminate variances.
  • Oversee the preparation and management of legal and financial agreements and collaboration activities with external partners in the integration of services, technologies and capabilities to ensure delivery of projects.

To be Successful
To be successful in this role, you will possess a degree in a relevant scientific discipline, preferably an advanced degree (MSc, PhD or equivalent) and significant experience in managing the early stage drug development process. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven leadership, hands-on management and operational skills in the commercial pharma/biotech sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of all aspects of drug discovery pharmacology, DMPK, toxicology and regulatory requirements and a strong understanding of the early commercialisation process.
  • Evidence of successful, long-term working relationships with academic scientists on industry-led projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, managing and controlling cross functional project budgets, timelines and scope documents.
