The Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) is Australia’s leading eye research institute, dedicated to eliminating the major eye diseases that cause vision loss and blindness and reducing their impact on the community.
Based in Melbourne, but with a global reach, our research teams cover the scope from basic sciences, genetics, surgical research right through to population health research and global health delivery.
CERA is a world leader for clinical and scientific publications it produces. We have a strong record developing new treatments for the major eye diseases of macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
CERA is beginning the next generation of eye research: Australia’s first program in vision regeneration. It will offer new hope to people who have lost their sight and revolutionary new approaches for restoring vision with stem cells, and new ways to apply drugs for all common eye diseases.
CERA is located at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. The setting provides the ideal environment to conduct its world renowned translational research.
