Victoria is the gateway to Australia's biotech sector. As the 'jewel in the crown' of Australian biotech and research capabilities, Victoria leads the way in providing engagement within the sector locally, nationally and internationally.
The Victorian BioPortal is Australia's first biotechnology industry portal. The purpose of the BioPortal is to communicate Victoria's biotechnology strengths and act as a central point for relevant sector information and updates.
Our biotech companies, specialist service providers, universities and research organisations can use the BioPortal to access information aboput available technologies & infrastructure, as well as raise their profile, and share a wealth of information with colleagues and clients.
The BioPortal was one of many initiatives that arose from the Victorian Government's Biotechnology Strategic Development Plan (BSDP) facilitated working groups. Volunteer advisors from across the sector made up the membership of four working groups meeting over more than 18 months.
The BioPortal's role is to be a one-stop-shop to access information about the sector reaturing:
The Victorian Government's Year two Progress Report for the 2007 Biotechnology Strategic Development Plan will also be launched. The Plan sets out government objectives for building a mature, flourishing and commercially sustainable biotechnology sector in Victoria by 2010. The Year Two Progress report includes an update on sector performance, corporate and research highlights and program activities and achievements throughout 2009.
This BioEvent will also mark the official start to the stakeholder consultations for the Government's next Biotechnology Strategic Development Plan and is your opportunity to engage with Government and help shape our exciting biotechnology sector.
